Director/Managing Director - Business Development, Virginia and Maryland State/Local Government

Location: Annapolis, MD

Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned professional to help expand our presence in Virginia and Maryland by cultivating relationships with prospective clients and representing our firm in the region’s public finance market. This role is ideal for someone with deep connections in local government – whether as a former municipal advisor, local government manager or finance director, commercial banker, or public finance executive – who enjoys networking, introducing valuable solutions, and helping communities achieve their financial goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local government finance officials, including finance directors, treasurers, and CFOs
  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new municipal advisory engagements, with a focus on cities, counties, and public agencies in Maryland and Virginia
  • Serve as a local “face of the firm” in early-stage client conversations
  • Create business development plans for prospective clients of the firm
  • Organize and participate in client meetings and calls
  • Serve as a visible representative of the firm at state associations, including Maryland and Virginia GFOA conferences and events
  • Lead prospective client meetings and presentations, supported by internal teams
  • Coordinate internally to maximize the firm’s resources in support of client efforts
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the firm to leverage resources and deliver exceptional client service
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public administration or related field
  • 10+ years of experience with a thorough understanding of local government finance
  • Exceptional work ethic, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and confident
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and active listening), confident and polished in client-facing settings
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team Excellent project management skills
  • Willingness to travel frequently for meetings with prospective clients

Director/Managing Director – Public Finance Senior Advisor

Location: Charlotte, NC or Annapolis, MD or Remote

Job Description:

This individual will serve as a senior advisor within our firm.

Responsibilities:
  • Marketing to and earning the business of prospective clients
  • Leading client relationships
  • Directing the client/deal process
  • Assigning deal work, proposals, presentations to junior bankers
  • Teaching and directing junior bankers
  • Directing the preparation of expert quality presentations/proposals/letters/memos
  • Sharing ideas and useful information with colleagues
  • Formulating insightful financial analyses in DBC (delegated)
  • Oversight of pricing process and analysis
  • Ability to direct creation of FTA’s propriety Excel models (capital planning, pricing)
  • Demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the municipal industry
  • Providing meaningful feedback to offering and bond documents and knowledge of what they should contain
  • Understanding and following industry regulations
  • Public speaking and conference attendance

Job Description:

This individual will serve as junior-level support to senior advisors within our firm.

Responsibilities:
  • Proactive management of transactions and financial planning assignments of the firm
  • Teaching and assisting juniors and peers
  • Preparation of presentations/proposals/letters/memos in PowerPoint and Word
  • Sharing ideas and useful information with colleagues
  • Performing bond calculations in Munex or DBC
  • Formulating, building and utilizing FTA’s propriety Excel models
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the municipal industry
  • Regular and professional interaction with clients (both in-person and via Teams or Zoom)
  • Understanding and following industry regulations
  • Maintaining records in DealCloud in collaboration with senior advisors
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of DBC/Munex, financial modeling, credit analysis
  • Minimum of three years of public finance (or comparable) industry experience
  • Organized, proactive, detail oriented and accurate work style
  • Quick learner with strong communication and teaching skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint
