Andy Smith

Managing Director

Andy Smith joined First Tryon Advisors, LLC in 2023 and has over thirty years of experience serving municipal clients in a variety of banking capacities.  His activities with FTA will focus on further development of the financial advisory practice’s client base.  Prior to joining First Tryon, Andy served as Group Head/Managing Director for Governmental Finance at Truist Securities, where he served as the line of business director and the primary bank lender for municipalities in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida.  Prior to that role, he served for 23 years as the Sales and Marketing Manager and primary municipal bank lender for the Carolinas and Florida with BB&T Governmental Finance.  Andy’s career of service to local governments first began with his role as Director of Research with the South Carolina Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations.

Andy received his MPA from the Joint Program of the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina and his BA  from Furman University.  He is a Riley Fellow with the Riley Institute at Furman University.   He is a Registered Representative of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and holds the Municipal Advisor Representative license (Series 50).
