Traditionally during the holidays we’ve engaged in a friendly competition between the trading and financial advisory sides of First Tryon to see which side could donate the most canned goods to Second Harvest Food Bank. Because of the pandemic, this year the need in our community has been greater than ever. Many more of our neighbors find themselves in dire economic straits and thousands of children are going to sleep hungry. The statistic Second Harvest shared with us said it all. During the period from March 19th to September 30th Second Harvest distributed over 12 million more pounds of food than they did for the same period in 2019. First Tryon’s CEO, Keith Brunnemer, lead our response to the increased need and offered to match any donations made by the firm’s employees during the month of December. Together, we were able to donate $46,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank which provided approximately 322,000 pounds of food for those in our community facing food insecurity. This will make a huge impact in the lives of many and we felt fortunate to be in the position to offer help.
